Eight things to do in and around the Gold Coast

August 12, 2020

Dreaming of getting away from it all? Bel Air on Broadbeach has some great accommodation specials available. Why not book your next holiday and grab a great deal at the same time? Here are eight things to do in and around the Gold Coast to inspire you.

1 - Immerse yourself in wide open beaches

Bel Air is positioned just a short walk from some of the Gold Coast’s best beaches: Broadbeach, Main Beach and Mermaid Beach. Grab a hat and some sunglasses and stroll up and down the beautiful golden sands as you feel the stresses of modern day living slip away.  Dip your toes in the water, see if you can spot sand crabs scuttling across the sand, or just kick back and watch the surf. Pack a picnic hamper and blanket and spend the day at the beach. This is what holidays are all about.

2 - Take the plunge

With the beach at your doorstep take the plunge and enjoy a daily swim in the ocean. You can frolic in the shallows, swim in the waves or try your hand at surfing. Both the Broadbeach and Kurrawa Surf Lifesaving Clubs patrol sections of the beach just near Bel Air. Aussie surf lifesavers are usually on patrol to ensure that you stay safe. Remember to only swim at the patrolled section of the beach when the lifesavers are on duty, and only between the red and yellow flags.

3 - Whale spotting from the shore

One of the amazing things to do on the Gold Coast is Humpback Whale spotting! These magnificent creatures can be spotted from May each year to the end of the whale season in November and often come quite close to shore. You can head down to the beach to try your luck at spotting a whale from the shore. If you scan the horizon you could be lucky enough to see a whale breach as it launches its body out of the water, or flaps its enormous fin on the water’s surface. Be sure to keep your eye out for the tell-tail spouts of water being shot into the air, which means the whale is near the surface. If you are feeling fit why not walk along the foreshore to Burleigh Hill for a birds-eye view?  If you would prefer an up close experience you could also book a Gold Coast whale watching cruise.

4 - Swim in a waterfall pool

Every wanted to swim in a waterfall? Pack the car with all your favourite goodies and playlist and head down to Currumbin Valley to experience the Cougal Cascades . The cascades drop down into a large pool just perfect for swimming in. Only 45 minutes by car, the falls are hidden amongst lush rainforest in the Springbrook National Park. Enjoy a winding drive through lush valleys, spot an array of native wildlife (and the odd cow or two) and get your steps in for the day. Hot tip - head out early. You might have the falls to yourself.

5 - Hit the hinterland

Grab an ‘old skool’ roadmap and plan a trip to the Gold Coast Hinterland. There’s a myriad of tourist drives and off the beaten track roads you can explore. Discover quaint old towns where you can indulge in a vanilla slice, browse in antique shop windows, buy the perfect bottle of wine from a boutique winery cellar door, and enjoy views of Mount Tambourine.  If you aren’t afraid of heights take a stop at the Tamborine Rainforest Skywalk. This amazing 1.5km walk combines forest floor trails, 300 metres of steel bridges through the highest points of the rainforest canopy and a 40 metre cantilever bridge that spans the rainforest and a creek at a heady 30 meters high. Make a day of it. You won’t be disappointed.

6 - Food glorious food

One thing that makes a memorable holiday is food and at Bel Air on Broadbeach you are spoilt for choice.  Feel like whipping up a delicious home cooked meal? Pop across the road to the Pacific Fair Shopping Centre and pick up everything you need. Take your meal inspiration from one of the many delicious restaurants in the food court and dining area. Prefer to eat our or get some takeaway? Bel Air is convenient to the Broadbeach dining precinct with every imaginable cuisine on offer from Thai and Indian, through to Italian and Mexican. The hardest decision you will have to make is whether to eat on your balcony or by the beach.

7 - Enjoy self-contained accommodation

Enjoy the freedom that comes with your own self-contained holiday accommodation.  Located a short walk from the beach on the Gold Coast, Bel Air on Broadbeach is the place to holiday if you want to relax and enjoy that home-away-from home feel. You can choose from a range of fully self-contained one, two or three bedroom apartments with their own kitchen, combined lounge and dining area, flat screen TV and balcony. Or you could indulge in either a two or three bedroom luxury penthouse apartment with jaw-dropping views of the ocean, city and hinterland. What are you waiting for?

8 - Kick back and relax

Sometimes it’s nice to just kick back and relax when on holiday. At Bel Air you don’t have to worry about where you are going to spend the day or how to get there. You can unwind and enjoy the wonderful range of resort facilities available. Indoors there’s a sauna and heated pool, or you could go for a work out in the fully equipped gymnasium. Or you could luxuriate around the cascading resort pool complete with children’s wading pool and heated spa, or cook up a delicious meal on the barbecue facilities.
